Szilvásvárad, September 4-8, 2024.

FEI Driving World Championship 2024 new logoDespite the driving successes of past generations, Szilvásvárad last hosted the Four-in-Hand Driving World Championship in 1984. Thanks to investments, Hungarian driving culture, and recorded achievements, the International Equestrian Federation awarded Szilvásvárad the right to host the Four-in-Hand Driving World Championship in 2024. The timing is no coincidence, as the global equestrian community celebrates the anniversary of the legendary 1984 Szilvásvárad championship, where Hungarian drivers stood on the top of both the team and individual podiums. Thanks to the nation's collective effort, this competition, which concluded with legendary organizational success, set the village and its surroundings on a path of ongoing development beyond equestrian sports.

The venue for the competition is the Szilvásvárad Lipizzaner Equestrian Center, a major government-funded project completed in 2018. In recent years, thousands of horses representing more than 30 nations have arrived in the Szalajka Valley, encompassing five equestrian disciplines, making the facility one of the flagships of Central European and global equestrian sports. Additionally, for the first time in the history of equestrian culture, the breeding of a specific horse breed was included in UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list, thanks to the Lipizzaner breed raised in Szilvásvárad.

In 2024, the successes of this event will benefit not only Hungarian equestrian sports but also hundreds of thousands of people. As in the past, it may positively influence the lives of generations to come. From September 4-8, 2024, more than 250 horses and 50 teams representing various continents will arrive in Szilvásvárad, with millions worldwide expected to follow the event.

In Hungary, driving is the most popular equestrian sport, consisting of three competition categories, with the marathon driving event on Saturday attracting the most visitors. Tens of thousands of spectators cheer on the drivers and their horses on the course located in the picturesque Diós Valley. Thanks to live broadcasts, our competitions can be followed from all over the world, allowing everyone to be part of this historic world championship’s success.
